Menstrual Health and Hygiene Project - Vedanta

The Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) Project, supported by Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh, and implemented by Mahashakti Foundation, focuses on enhancing menstrual health and hygiene awareness among women and adolescent girls in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi.

Goal of the Project

The Menstrual Health and Hygiene Project aims to empower women and girls in Lanjigarh and Muniguda by providing them with the knowledge and resources needed to manage their menstrual health with dignity. The project strives to break down the social taboos and stigma associated with menstruation, fostering an environment where menstrual health is openly discussed and managed without shame. By providing access to hygienic menstrual products and promoting safe practices, the initiative aims to enhance overall well-being, ensure that women and girls can make informed choices about their health, and support their full participation in daily life and community activities.

Activities of the Project

  • 1. Mobilization and Awareness: Engaged women through training and awareness programs, encouraging active participation.
  • 2. Convergence with Government Schemes: Facilitated access to existing government schemes to maximize support for women.
  • 3. Capacity Building: Trained women to become entrepreneurs in cloth pad stitching.
  • 4. Stakeholder Involvement: Engaged multi-stakeholders to promote feminine hygiene.
  • 5. School Interventions: Organized quizzes, debates, and other activities in schools to raise awareness.
  • 6. Community Engagement: Built rapport with Anganwadi workers, ASHA, ANM, and block-level health functionaries for effective community outreach.

Major Achievements of the Last Financial Year

  • 1. Awareness Camps: Conducted 111 awareness camps on menstrual health and hygiene in 67 villages, reaching 3,745 adolescent girls and women.
  • 2. School Programs: Organized 23 awareness programs in schools, covering 1,247 adolescent girls.
  • 3. Distribution of Reusable Pads: Distributed 1,581 reusable cloth pads, with a convergence amount of ₹47,430 from beneficiaries.
