Healthcare is a fundamental aspect of human well-being and a pillar of sustainable development, ensuring that communities have access to essential medical services, awareness, and preventive care. In rural areas, access to healthcare remains a challenge due to inadequate medical infrastructure, lack of awareness, and financial constraints. Addressing these issues requires holistic interventions, including awareness campaigns, community health programs, and improved healthcare accessibility. When healthcare services reach rural populations effectively, they reduce disease prevalence, improve maternal and child health, and enhance overall community well-being. Sustainable healthcare efforts focus on preventive care, hygiene awareness, and better integration with government health schemes to maximize their impact.
Mahashakti Foundation plays a crucial role in promoting healthcare through various initiatives, particularly in menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, and community well-being. Under its Menstrual Health and Hygiene project, Mahashakti has sensitized over 3,600 women, with 3,000 adopting safe menstrual practices. It has also engaged 2,000 adolescent girls, turning them into change agents for promoting hygiene awareness. The organization has established five model villages where 100% of eligible women use reusable cloth pads practicing optimal hygiene. Through school interventions, government scheme convergence, and community engagement, Mahashakti has enhanced access to the Odisha government’s Khusi scheme for free sanitary pads and improved disposal practices, reducing improper waste disposal by 20%.
In addition to menstrual hygiene, Mahashakti is involved in the Integrated Village Development Program (IVDP), focusing on overall health improvement in rural areas.
The program integrates healthcare access, sanitation, nutrition, and disease prevention strategies to build resilient communities. By mobilizing health workers, training women on financial inclusion, and facilitating access to government healthcare schemes, Mahashakti ensures that rural populations benefit from structured healthcare services. Through these initiatives, Mahashakti continues to drive meaningful health improvements, empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources to lead healthier, more dignified lives.
